What is a proper noun?
Proper nouns are the names of individual people, places, titles, calendar times, etc.. eg: Abdul; Sameem; London; The President; Tuesday.
Proper nouns are always written with a capital letter. Nouns which are not written with a capital letter do not refer to the name of an individual person or thing and are called common nouns.

Z ......... is expensive. Any word that can fit into the slot is a noun.
In the sentence " I bought SIMPAINE " the word simpaine is definitely a noun although we do not know whether it is the name of a person, place or thing.Actually, it is not an English word. Yet it is a noun because it is the the object in the sentence.
